NEAR DROWNING AT ESTACADA LAKE

Clackamas County 911 received a call at 1745hrs regarding a male who had jumped from the Hwy 211 Bridge into Estacada Lake. Witnesses said the male had been drinking and jumped off of the bridge intentionally. He first threw a inter tube into the water before jumping. The bridge is estimated to be over 50 feet above the lake. Initial reports were the male was under water but resurfaced. Witnesses said the male was unable to swim after the jump and was being pulled to shore by people near by. The male was face down in the water for about 2 minutes before being brought to shore.
A Clackamas County Deputy responded to the scene and was first to arrive. The male was being pulled to shore as he arrived on scene. The Deputy assessed the male and noticed he was not breathing and did not have a pulse. The Deputy quickly started CPR, after several chest compressions the male started breathing. Shortly after Estacada Fire arrived on scene and took over CPR.
Estacada Fire continued treating the male until Clackamas County Fire District Fire Boat 8 arrived and transported the patient by boat to the boat ramp. The male was transported by Life Flight to OHSU. Prior to being transported he was breathing on his own and able to talk with the rescuers.
The male was identified as Robert Chester French, 49 years old, of Estacada.
