Oregon State Police (OSP) is seeking the public's help to locate a 72-year old woman accompanied by her small black poodle after she walked away Thursday afternoon from the Sunset Rest Area along Highway 26 about 30 miles east of Seaside. The woman was last seen walking eastbound along the westbound lanes about 90 minutes ago.

According to Trooper Patrick Peltier, BETTY JANE STEWARD, age 72, from southeast Portland, was part of a group of elderly adults in a small bus returning to Portland from Seaside when they stopped at the Sunset Rest Area near milepost 29. On July 19, 2012 at approximately 3:30 p.m. OSP was notified STEWARD left the group with her small poodle and was last seen walking from the rest area.

OSP has notified local law enforcement agencies and troopers are checking Highway 26 and the surrounding area. There is a possibility she was picked up by a passing motorist.

STEWARD is described as a white female, 5'6", medium build, with short gray hair. She was wearing a pink shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888 or 9-1-1.
