CITY OF BEAVERTON SEEKS DONATIONS, VOLUNTEERS FOR SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
Posted: July 25th, 2012 1:55 PM
The city of Beaverton is collecting school supplies for middle and high school students in the Beaverton School District at Beaverton's Library branches and City Hall (4755 SW Griffith Drive) until Aug. 10.
"Going back to school is an exciting time," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "But, for some children and families it can be stressful. By donating school supplies, children and families who otherwise cannot afford them, won't have to worry about being prepared for the new school year."
Donated items that the city is seeking include pens, pencils, one-inch binders, erasers, rulers, and lined paper. This year, 800 new backpacks will be distributed to middle school and high school students. Students get the opportunity to choose their own backpack and supplies at the event.
In addition, volunteers are needed to help distribute backpacks and school supplies on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Aloha High School.
Last year, 855 new backpacks and 1,000 pounds of school supplies were donated.
