On July 16, 2012 around 9:52 PM Oregon City Police responded to the area of 13405 S. Clackamas River Drive in Oregon City regarding a subject that had just fell while attempting to climbing a wall at the South Fork Water District's pump station.

Witnesses told OCPD about 15 minutes prior to the 911 call a male subject who was identified as Charles "Charlie" Metler, DOB: 04/17/1988 swam across the Clackamas River (swam from the Gladstone side of the Clackamas River to the pump station on the Oregon City side of the river) and was attempting to climb the wall of the South Fork Water District's pump station when he apparently slipped and fell to his death.

Witnesses told OCPD officers they didn't actually see Metler climbing the wall because it was dark outside, but Metler successfully climbed the same wall earlier in the day for the purpose of jumping into the Clackamas River from the higher elevation.

No foul play is suspected, witnesses have reported Metler was climbing the wall alone when he fell. We have no information indicating drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Metler's last known address was 1460 SE Holgate, Portland.
