Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Saturday morning's serious injury head-on crash involving two vehicles on Highway 20 about five miles west of Bend.
According to Senior Trooper Tim Holbrook, on June 2, 2012 at approximately 8:30 a.m. a 2009 Toyota Aveo driven by VANESSA G. MADDOX, age 20, from Bend, was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 8. For an unknown reason, the Toyota Aveo drifted into the westbound land and collided head-on with a 1995 Toyota Camry four-door driven by DAVID R. O'CONNER, age 47, from Bend.
Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by firefighters from Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department and Bend Fire Department. They were using safety restraints.
MADDOX was transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with serious injury.
O'CONNER was transported by LifeFlight to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with serious injuries.
OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office were assisted at the scene by Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. Highway 20 at the crash scene was closed about two hours.
