ODOT/Valley, No. Coast: OR 58 (Willamette Hwy) reopened to a single lane of travel this morning after a 3-day/4-night complete closure near the Salt Creek tunnel at milepost 56.
Traffic is controlled by pilot cars through the tunnel and motorists should expect 20 minute delays.
Beginning Monday, June 11 there will be nighttime complete closures of the tunnel between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., Mondays through Thursdays. There will be no nighttime closures on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.
During nighttime closures, the community of Oakridge will remain open for business from the west and the communities of Willamette Pass and Crescent Lake will remain open for business from the east.
Two year project
The OR 58: Salt Creek Tunnel and Half-Viaduct project is a two year project to be constructed in spring and summer of 2012 and 2013.
The project will:
* Replace the half viaduct west of the tunnel
* Replace the three half viaducts east of the tunnel
* Repair the tunnel liner
* Lower the tunnel floor
* Construct variable message signs east and west of the tunnel.
The $9.4 million contract was awarded to Capital Concrete Construction, Inc., of Aumsville, Ore
