Shortly before 10am on Saturday June 6th, Cornelius Fire Department (CFD) was alerted to a possible residential fire located at 316 Baseline Street. Fire crews arrived three minutes after being dispatched and found a single story house with smoke and flames coming from an attached garage which was converted to a room. Firefighters started a quick attack of the flames and were able to keep the fire from spreading to other portions of the house. Paramedics from Metro West Ambulance also provided care to two of the residents of the house, one resident had minor smoke inhalation and was transported to Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro, the second resident was not sent to the hospital but also had smoke inhalation and had burns on one of their hands. Fire crews remained on scene for approximately two hours extinguishing hot spots.

At the time of the fire, two of the residents were asleep and a third resident had to wake them up to exit the house. One of the residents that was asleep tried to go into the garage and extinguish the flames, in the process they suffered burns to their hand.

Damage from the fire was contained to the garage area of the house, with minor smoke damage in the surrounding rooms. The fire is initially estimated to have caused $40,000 in damage to the structure and contents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

This is a reminder that if there is a fire in your residence, no matter what, get out and stay out. Trying to save belongings that can be replaced is not worth getting injured over or possibly losing your life.

CFD was assisted on scene by Forest Grove Fire & Rescue and Hillsboro Fire & Rescue.
