At shortly before 1:00pm this afternoon a 16 month old child was taken by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to Doernbecher Children's Hospital after falling from a second story window. It was reported that the child was playing on a bunk bed that was pushed up against the window. A screen was in place but was easily pushed out of the window by the small child. When the screen gave way the child fell approximately 20 feet landing in a bush then onto the ground.

Firefighters from Clackamas Fire responded to the child's home at 14920 Marjorie Ln. in Oregon City after the incident was reported by a maintenance crew working nearby. Paramedics from Clackamas Fire and American Medical Response (AMR) arrived to find the child crying on the ground. Crews quickly loaded the child into the ambulance and transported to Doernbecher Children's Hospital with the child in stable condition. It is reported that the child was momentarily out of sight of the child's sister who was the caregiver at the time.

This is the second child that has fallen from a second story window since Monday within the service area of Clackamas Fire.

IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE
As summer weather approaches and inside temperatures rise, it is important to remember to secure your windows with child proof locks. While screens serve the purpose of keeping insects out of the home they easily fail when being pushed on by unknowing children. Having commercially made window locks prevent the window from being opened past four inches, reducing the likely hood of a child falling out. Clackamas Fire would further like to remind parents to keep furniture and other objects that children may easily climb away from windows.
