Posted: June 5th, 2012 12:00 PM
Beaverton resident Laurette McGee recently won the 2012 Beaverton Parade Theme Contest for her creation of the 2012 Celebration Parade theme: The Many Faces of our City. Now in its 55th year, the Celebration Parade will be held Saturday, Sep. 8, 2012 at 10 a.m.
"The parade theme contest is a great opportunity for Beaverton residents to share their own unique perspective of the community and shape one of our signature events," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "This year's theme reflects the diversity of the city, which is one of our greatest strengths."
As the Parade Theme Contest winner, McGee won a prize package that includes a "celebrity" ride in this year's parade along with a gift basket of products from local business.
"My inspiration for the Many Faces of Our City theme came from our city being so diversified," said Laurette McGee. "The theme reflects my feeling that there is always an interesting person around the corner."
The Beaverton Celebration Parade began in 1957 and has grown into a community tradition. Previous parade themes have included Catch the Spirit, Everything is Golden, Community Pride...City Wide, Dancing in the Streets and A Vision of the Future.
