Boating Incident Resulted in Two Persons Injured
On 05/12/10 at approximately 3:25 p.m. Vancouver Police were called to the beach at Wintler Park, 6500 SE Beach Drive, regarding a report that a boat ran aground and struck persons on the beach. Officers arrived and found that two persons suffered non life threatening injuries after a power boat, a 28 foot Nordic, ran aground onto the beach. Vancouver Police Officers turned the investigation over to the Clark County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit for further investigation. Deputies from the Marine Unit arrived on scene and impounded the power boat for further investigation. There were numerous persons in the boat and none reported any injury. The operator of the boat, 35 year old Derek Dinwiddie, is cooperating with investigators. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the collision at this time. The area of the Wintler Park Beach does have restrictions on power boats relating to speed and distance. A portion of the beach was temporarily shut down and has since been o
pened. No Further information available at this time. The investigation is continuing.
