Posted: May 26th, 2012 6:43 PM

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of a Clackamas County deputy medical examiner, is continuing the investigation into the death of a 77-year old Tigard man found early Saturday morning slumped in the driver's seat of his sport utility vehicle parked at the Government Camp rest area. Preliminary investigation indicates the man may have died from natural causes.

According to Trooper Scott McLeod, on May 26, 2012 at approximately 6:30 a.m. a man and woman stopped at the rest area and saw an elderly male slumped over in the driver's seat of a parked 2009 GMC Yukon. They checked on the man and found he was unresponsive so they called 9-1-1. Hoodland Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced FREDERICK DEAN WALTERS, age 77, from Tigard, deceased about 15 minutes later.

WALTERS was reportedly camping in the area with family members when he left during the night to follow an ambulance transporting his wife to a hospital because she was having a medical problem. He was last seen pulling into the rest area about 4:00 a.m.
