A minor injury crash Monday morning involving two commercial trucks led to a partial spill of potatoes onto part of the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 about six miles north of Grants Pass. One lane was closed about one hour as ODOT workers cleared the spilled load.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Jeff Proulx, on May 14, 2012 at approximately 7:14 a.m. a 2012 Peterbilt truck pulling a trailer loaded with potatoes driven by JOSE FELIX, age 46, from Hanford, California, was traveling northbound in the right lane of Interstate 5 near milepost 67. Another northbound commercial truck driven by RAYMUNDO HERNANDEZ, age 55, from Long Beach, California, collided into the rear of the trailer causing a portion of the potato load to spill onto the road and shoulder.
HERNANDEZ was transported by AMR ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. OSP cited HERNANDEZ for Careless Driving.
FELIX was not injured.
ODOT workers used a front-end loader to clear the spilled potatoes from the road.
