Gresham's model home gets addition for Building Safety Month
ACE Academy students construct roof addition to small-scale model home

GRESHAM, Ore. - City inspectors will be at the Gresham Farmers' Market on May 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for Building Safety Month. The inspectors will bring their popular model home to talk with market visitors about how building codes and permits safeguard public safety.
The small scale home offers residents a chance to peek inside the walls, and under the floorboards, of a typical home to see hidden piping, electrical and other systems and to learn more about when, and why, building codes and inspections are required for safety. The model home recently received roof trusses built to scale and installed by Architecture Construction and Engineering (ACE) students under direction and assistance of City inspectors. ACE is a public, tuition-free charter high school drawing students from Centennial, Gresham-Barlow, Parkrose and Reynolds school districts.
Building Safety Month was created by the International Code Council Foundation to help people understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures. This initiative reinforces the need for the adoption of modern model building codes, a strong and efficient system to enforce those codes, and a well-trained professional workforce to ensure public safety.
