On May 28, 2012, at 10:11p.m., Washington County Sheriff's Deputies were notified there was a vehicle that crashed through the glass windows at the AutoZone store at 825 NW Murray Boulevard in Cedar Mill, an area of the Enhanced Sheriff's Patrol District (ESPD). The AutoZone employees told deputies that a silver Dodge pickup crashed into the building shattering windows and damaging the sidewall. They told deputies the pickup immediately backed up and fled the area at a high rate of speed.
Sheriff's Deputies quickly responded to the area in an attempt to locate the suspect vehicle. A deputy located the pickup driving eastbound on Highway 26 at the Canyon Road exit. Sheriff's Deputies were able to safely stop the vehicle, which was driven by Megan Spurgeon, 21, from Portland. Deputies completed a DUII investigation and arrested Ms. Spurgeon.
Megan Spurgeon was lodged in the Washington County Jail charged with DUII, Fail to Perform the Duties of a Driver (Hit and Run), Reckless Driving, and second degree Criminal Mischief. She is held on $5,000 bail. Her blood alcohol content was well over the legal limit. The damage to AutoZone is expected to exceed $15,000.
Every year the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrests about 1200 alcohol and drug impaired drivers, which is an enforcement priority for the Sheriff's Office.
