Goal of mock crash is to discourage teen drinking.
When neighbors drive by Columbia River High School on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 09:30 AM they may see several emergency vehicles, but there is no reason to be alarmed. The school is hosting a program called S.K.I.D., Stop Kids Intoxicated Driving.

The S.K.I.D. program creates a mock drinking and driving crash scene with real crashed vehicles and student actors. There will be a full emergency response including the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Fire District 6, American Medical Response, and Lifeflight. The mock scene will result in the arrest of a student actor for driving under the influence, several injured victims, and a fatality. This is an emotional and realistic view of a drinking and driving tragedy. The goal is to make a lasting impact on the students and to discourage them from drinking and driving as they approach prom, graduation, and the coming summer.

All Columbia River High School juniors and seniors (more than 600 students) will have the opportunity to see the program, which begins at 9:30 a.m. at the school stadium. Columbia River High School is located at 800 NW 99th Street, Vancouver, 98665.

S.K.I.D. is made possible with grant funds from the All-State Insurance Foundation, and support from TLC Towing and the involved agencies mentioned above. Students, working with Columbia River's School Resource Officer, planned this event.

Note: News media are invited to cover this event, it is not open to the public.
