Posted: May 15th, 2012 5:10 PM

On May 16th at 10:00 AM at the Clark County Sheriff's Office Headquarters, Dennison "Carter" Harris will be sworn in as the Honorary Sheriff.

According to Carter's mother Robin Harris, "Carter is almost 5 years old. He is smart, determined, and loves to make people laugh. He was diagnosed with Leukemia in December of 2010 and is still undergoing chemotherapy. He has been so brave and positive through it all. He has matured beyond his years, but he still loves to have fun! He especially loves riding his bike and swimming. Carter has been and will continue to be an inspiration to his family and all those around him."

Clark County Sheriff's Office is one of 25 agencies statewide participating in the "Chief for a Day" which is about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a chronic or life-threatening illness. The biennial event will officially occur for the statewide participants on August 16th in Burien, WA.

Officials at Clark County Sheriff's Office wanted to swear "Sheriff Carter" in on the 16th so that he can observe the Law Enforcement Memorial Events on the 17th as an honorary law enforcement family member.

Sheriff Carter will also be riding in Clark County Sheriff Office's boat in the Hazel Dell Parade, and has been selected to be the Grand Marshal of the Felida Neighborhood Association's July 4th Children's parade.
