On April 14, 2012, at about 3:55 p.m. Laura Schaefer, age 76 of Eagle Creek, died as the result of injuries sustained in a head on crash on SE Tillstrom Road near SE Debora Drive in Damascus, Oregon.

The driver of the other vehicle, Gary Monaco, age 52 of Boring, is being investigated for DUII and Criminally Negligent Homicide.

Gary Monaco was driving a maroon F350 pickup truck and crossed over the center line of SE Tillstrom Road near SE Debora Drive, crashing head-on into the Nissan Versa being driven by Laura Schaefer.

Witnesses and bystanders called 911 about the crash. Ms. Schaefer was pinned in the vehicle and Boring Fire Rescue personnel were required to extricate her from the wreckage. She died at the scene.

Gary Monaco was transported to OHSU with non-life threatening injuries and was later released.

The crash is being investigated by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Criminal Reconstruction and Forensics Team (CRAFT).



TIPS SOUGHT

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is seeking tips and information regarding this crime. *** Specifically, investigators are looking for witnesses who may have seen the driving of Gary Monaco immediately prior to the crash in the area of SE Foster Road and SE Jenne Road. A photo of the truck being driven by Gary Monaco in the crash is attached. ***
