On May 31, 2012, at about 9:15 a.m., Jeff Blaser, age 38, of Damascus, called 911 after seeing a female school bus driver in distress alongside SE Sunnyside Road near SE 157th Avenue, Happy Valley.

When Mr. Blaser stopped to assist, he saw the driver, identified as Alice Scoggin, age 68, of Portland, was being assaulted by a juvenile male. He later reported the student was biting Ms. Scoggin and also tried to bite him.

Happy Valley Police arrived at 9:18 a.m. and called for a medical response as the bus driver was bruised and bloody. The student, not named, approximate age 10-12 years, reportedly had bit Ms. Scoggin multiple times in the arm and face, causing her injuries. The student also attempted to bite the deputy as he was taking him into custody.

The student was taken into protective custody. It was learned during the investigation the student has autism.

The North Clackamas School Bus Transportation Office sent representatives to the scene.
