Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Thursday morning's single vehicle injury traffic crash along Highway 213 about two miles north of Silverton. The highway was closed during the initial response and later arrival of OSP explosive technicians to render safe a suspicious object found inside the vehicle.

On April 19, 2012 at approximately 6:45 a.m. a single vehicle injury crash occurred along Highway 213 near Abiqua Road. A 2005 Kia Optima four-door driven by IVAN J. SHUBIN, age 21, from Turner, was northbound on Highway 213 when it traveled off the road and collided into a utility pole.

SHUBIN was trapped in the car and extricated by Silverton Fire Department firefighters. He was transported by ambulance to Silverton Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A suspicious object was spotted inside the car so the OSP Explosives Unit was contacted and responded. After rendering the object safe, OSP explosives technicians cleared the scene about 9:30 a.m.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Silverton Police Department, Silverton Fire Department and ODOT.

Senior Trooper Jeff Leighty is the lead investigator. No other information to be released at this time.
