Fatal Collision in Battle Ground Leaves Passenger Dead; Driver Arrested.

FATAL COLLISION IN BATTLE GROUND LEAVES PASSENGER DEAD; DRIVER ARRESTED.

On April 24th 2012 at 11:18 pm, Clark County Sheriff's Deputies along with personnel from Clark County Fire and Rescue responded to the 20700 block of NE Risto Road for the report of a single vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, deputies and medics observed a single vehicle had impacted a tree on the south side of Risto Road. The driver of the vehicle was contacted and transported to Peace Health Medical Center. The passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence gathered on scene and at the hospital indicate that alcohol is a factor in the collision.

The collision occurred on a straight stretch of roadway. The involved vehicle was traveling eastbound on Risto Road. Evidence indicates the vehicle drove off the straight roadway and down a slight embankment, striking the tree. Posted speed on this roadway is 50 mph.
VEHICLE: red 1997 Ford Crown Victoria sedan, Oregon License
DRIVER: HAM, Sarengaw, age 28; resident of Oregon
PASSENGER: Unidentified male adult, appearing early 20's

Driver Ham was treated and released from the hospital. He was immediately taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Jail for Vehicular Homicide, a Class A Felony in Washington. Ham was also booked on an outstanding warrant for Driving While Suspended.

The passenger's identification is being witheld pending notification of next of kin. The collision is under investigation by the CCSO Traffic Unit
