On April 20, 2012, at about 1:00 PM, a First Student school bus was returning a group of 21 St. Ignatius School students home from a week at Camp Namanu when the bus slid off the wet road, leaving it teetering on an embankment on SE Camp Namanu Road.
Clackamas County Sheriff Deputy Alan Alderman arrived at 1:14 PM and noted the students had all moved to the uphill seats to help steady the bus. Deputy Alderman quickly assisted the 21 students evacuate out the rear emergency exit door of the bus. The teacher of the class and the bus driver were the last to be evacuated
The students were reported to be shaken up and scared, but uninjured. They walked back to Camp Namanu with the camp supervisor and their teacher. The camp staff notified the parents.
The driver reported the front wheel of the bus got caught in soft mud and pulled the bus off the wet road at about 5-10 mph. The driver of the bus was not cited for any traffic violations.
