Being wattsmart pays dividends
New energy efficiency incentives for Washington customers make it even easier to save energy, money
YAKIMA, Wash. (April 16, 2012) --- It pays to be energy efficient in Washington. Starting today, Pacific Power has new incentives for customers who make "wattsmart" home improvements and upgrades that will save them energy and money.
Many customers are already familiar with Pacific Power's wattsmart program, which offers cash back for a variety of energy-efficient products and services. The updated offerings further increase the amount of money residents can receive.
"This is simple: we want to pay you to save money," says Pat Egan, Pacific Power vice president of customer and community affairs. "We've broadened and increased our wattsmart incentives to help our Washington customers save through energy efficiency improvements. This is a double-benefit because you save on the purchase of energy-efficient products and services, and again on your monthly bill through reduced electricity use."
For instance, residents will now receive $35 cash back if they purchase a qualifying high-efficiency refrigerator, and they can add to those savings by recycling their old freezer or fridge through the "See ya later, refrigerator" program. This popular program offers free pickup plus a $30 check to anyone looking to get rid of an older qualifying unit.
Those searching for efficient lighting options will be pleased to know that Light Emitting Diode (LED) light bulbs with discount pricing will soon be available at participating retailers. LED bulbs use even less energy than CFLs, and can last up to five times longer. To find participating retailers, go to: homeenergysavings.net/Washington/lighting.html.
Other new incentives for qualifying products include $100 cash back for portable evaporative coolers, $150 for heat pump water heaters, and $750 for ductless heat pumps. In addition, some existing customer incentives have increased significantly. For example, the incentive for heat pump conversions has doubled from $300 to $600.
Homeowners are not the only ones who benefit. Contractors and businesses that install high-efficiency heating and air conditioning equipment and services can also cash in on incentives. Pacific Power offers personalized support and other resources to contractors focusing their efforts on energy efficiency.
