UPDATE: NAME RELEASED - FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 22W NEAR DALLAS (PHOTOS)

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of an early Thursday morning single vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 22W near Dallas. The victim's name is released in this update.
According to Sergeant Craig Ball, on March 1, 2012 at approximately 7:05 a.m. an OSP trooper on patrol along Highway 22W near Highway 223 spotted the tires of a vehicle upside down in water bordering the highway. Unaware if the vehicle was occupied, the trooper requested Dallas Fire & Rescue respond to help. Using a winch, fire personnel overturned the vehicle at which time CODY ROBERT McDANIEL, age 22, from Dallas, was found inside a 1983 Toyota pickup. Safety restraint use is not confirmed.
The initial investigation hasn't determined what time the crash happened but troopers learned he was expected in the Grand Ronde area around 6:00 a.m. Tire tracks were seen westbound near milepost 12 on the snow/ice covered road leading off the shoulder where it overturned in approximately 5-feet deep water.
OSP is being assisted with the investigation by the Polk County medical examiner.
Dallas Fire & Rescue, Polk County Sheriff's Office and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was closed about four hours with a detour in place.

On a side note, the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center advised the center received and dispatched troopers to 90 reported motor vehicle crashes between 12:01 a.m. and 12 noon. The hardest hit area was central and southern Willamette Valley where starting around 4:30 a.m. troopers responded to 50 reported crashes included several along Interstate 5 south of Woodburn involving vehicles losing control on black ice. At least four vehicles lost control and traveled into the median where they were stopped by center cable barriers designed and installed to prevent crossover crashes.
Troopers working in northern Willamette Valley, Mt. Hood area and north Oregon coast responded to 30 reported crashes. Ten traffic crashes were reported in eastern Oregon.
