UPDATE: FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 6 WEST OF BANKS
Posted: March 23rd, 2012 2:30 PM

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into the cause of Friday morning's fatal traffic crash on Highway 6 about one mile east of Glenwood. The crash resulted in the death of a 58-year old Hillsboro-area man. His name will be released later tonight to allow family additional time for notifications.

According to Sergeant Luke Schwartz, on March 23, 2012 at approximately 8:15 a.m. a 2009 Freightliner truck pulling a loaded semi-trailer driven by DOUGLAS MALONE, age not available, from Cornelius, was eastbound on Highway 6 near milepost 41 when a westbound 1971 Volkswagen van crossed the centerline. The truck veered to the right against a guardrail but was unable to avoid the van as both vehicles collided nearly head-on.

MALONE was treated at the scene for minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital. MALONE was driving for Gardner Trucking and was hauling cardboard boxes. He was using safety restraints.

The van's driver died enroute to the hospital.

OSP troopers from the North Plains worksite are continuing the investigation.

Washington County Sheriff's Office, Hillsboro Police Department, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, and ODOT are assisting.

Highway 6 is still closed at the crash scene with a detour in place. Truck traffic is being advised by ODOT to use Highway 26 or Highway 30. Traffic updates available at www.TripCheck.com.

No photographs for release until possibly later this evening when name released.
