Two injury traffic crashes Tuesday morning on Highway 26 in the Mt. Hood area resulted in non-life threatening injuries to two people. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into both crashes in which snow and ice were contributing factors.

Accordingt to Trooper Scott McLeod, on March 6, 2012 at 8:03 a.m. an ODOT snowplow was stopped on the westbound shoulder of Highway 26 at Frog Lake near milepost 62 when a westbound 1992 Ford van driven by FLOYD W. LEACH, age 56, from Madras, lost control and slid into the back of the snowplow. The van's passenger, JOSHUA LEACH, age 21, was transported by AMR ambulance to Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. FLOYD LEACH was not injured. Both were using safety restraints.

The ODOT snowplow operator was not injured and the vehicle was driven from the scene after the investigation. The van had minor right front damage.

The second injury traffic crash occurred at approximately 11:12 a.m. on Highway 26 near milepost 50. A 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by MARIA VEGA JUAREZ, age 45, from Culver, was westbound when it lost control negotiating a right curve in snowy conditions. The Jeep traveled into the eastbound lane, back across the highway and into the westbound shoulder ditch where it rolled on its top.

VEGA JUAREZ was extricated from the vehicle by Hoodland Fire Department firefighters and transported by ambulance to Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center with non-life threatening injures.

(Note the second crash was initially reported in error as being in Washington County)

OSP was assisted at both crash scenes by Hoodland Fire Department and ODOT.
