Vancouver – On March 3rd, 2012 at 4:52 AM Clark County Sheriff's deputies responded to a single vehicle collision on NE 78th Street at Interstate 5 in the Hazel Dell area. Deputies found the vehicle had crashed into the bridge structure causing major damage to the vehicle. One of the persons in the vehicle had ran from the crash on foot and was found shortly thereafter. Another person in the vehicle suffered injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel from Fire District 6. A third person in the vehicle was treated and released for minor injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound on NE 78th Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle went out of control at or west of NE Highway 99. Once out of control the vehicle crossed a low profile concrete median into the eastbound lanes of NE 78th Street. The vehicle continued out of control crossing all eastbound lanes and went onto the island that separates right and left turn lanes on the Interstate 5 northbound off ramp. The vehicle destroyed traffic control signs and a traffic control signal before finally crashing into the bridge structure.
The driver of the vehicle has not yet been positively identified.
Occupants of the vehicle:
Rashawn Hurse – a 33 year old Vancouver man. Arrested for an unrelated warrant.
Maggie Bad Horse – a 30 year old Vancouver woman. Arrested for an unrelated warrant.
Temika Beasley – a 27 year old Vancouver woman. Treated for injuries.
The crash is being investigated by the Clark County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit. Preliminary investigation indicates alcohol and high speed may be factors in the collision.
