PREPARE YOUR FAMILY FOR A DISASTER AT THE WEST LINN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIR
Posted: March 7th, 2012 11:37 AM

Is your family prepared for an earthquake or major disaster? What would you do if your home lost power for a month? What if you didn't have running water or food for a week? Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue and the City of West Linn are proud to announce the 2nd Annual West Linn Emergency Preparedness Fair on March 14 (Wednesday night) from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at West Linn High School. It's an opportunity to prepare for everything from the Big One (a huge earthquake) to the power outages and windstorms that we see more frequently.

Bring your family and learn about building a survival kit for your family, learn how to cook in the dark, hear from the "Prophet of Doom" (also known as James Roddey from the Oregon Red Cross) about the Big One, and more. If you live in West Linn, you'll be able to find your house on a landslide hazard map and the West Linn Public Safety Advisory Board will teach you how to map your neighborhood. TVF&R and West Linn will have interactive demonstrations and there will be activities for the kids too!

Exhibitors & activities include:

•TVF&R Safety House – Learn to Drop, Cover and Hold On during an earthquake!
•Explore a Fire Engine and a Police Car
•Practice hands-only CPR
•Prepare your family emergency kit
•Create your Family Communications Plan and your Fire Escape Plan
•Pet safety
•"Cooking in the Dark" with Simple Safety.com
•Map Your Neighborhood
•Food storage emergency preparedness
•Electricity and safety
•Teach your kids about calling 911
•Medical emergency preparation with Legacy Health Systems
•Prophet of Doom earthquake lecture
•And more!

TVF&R is committed to helping citizens prepare for disasters. We hope that when you walk away from this event, you and your family will be better prepared to survive at home for several days without outside assistance. Our region is overdue for a major disaster. Be prepared!

If you can't make it, visit TVF&R's Emergency Preparedness website (http://www.tvfr.com/safetytips/emer_prep/index.aspx) or visit Take5toSurvive.com to find a list of easy, five minute projects you and your family can tackle at home.
