Two Medford, Oregon men were arrested Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop on Highway 20 east of Burns when Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Harney County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), discovered over 4 pounds of marijuana and a small amount of methamphetamine concealed in their pickup. The OSP Drug Enforcement Section is continuing the investigation.

On February 28, 2012 at approximately 12:41 p.m. an OSP sergeant stopped a 2001 GMC Silverado pickup displaying Oregon license plates eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 150 for a traffic violation. The two occupants were identified as driver JOSE D. SCHMERBER, age 42, and passenger TODD R. MARTIN, age 37, both from Medford.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop with the assistance of a HCSO drug detection canine led to the discovery in the pickup's bed of over 4 pounds of marijuana inside a suitcase and about 5 grams of methamphetamine. Estimated value of the seized marijuana is $10,000.

SCHMERBER and MARTIN were arrested and lodged in the Harney County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Delivery of Marijuana, and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.

SCHMERBER was also cited for Driving While Suspended.
