Posted: March 22nd, 2012 5:10 PM
Two people were injured Thursday morning in a cross-over traffic crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 about five miles north of Cottage Grove. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation.
On March 22, 2012 at approximately 11:25 a.m. a 2012 Kia Forte driven by DENNIS P. FOLEY, age 67, from Fircrest, Washington was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 179 in the left lane when it traveled off the roadway, through the center median and collided nearly head-on with a southbound 1993 Honda Accord four-door driven by an adult female.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with non-life threatening injuries. The female driver's name will not be available until tomorrow. Both were using safety restraints and airbags deployed.
The southbound lanes were closed about 30 minutes. OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office were assisted at the scene by South Lane County Fire & Rescue and ODOT.
Senior Trooper Rick Hamilton is the lead investigator. The cause of the crash is not confirmed but a medical problem may have been a contributing factor.
