A 27-year old Eugene man is facing several charges following a Wednesday night alcohol-involved injury traffic crash with an ambulance on Highway 126W about six miles east of Florence. The Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Florence Police Department, is continuing the investigation.
On March 21, 2012 at approximately 11:25 p.m. a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by WADE FLAESCHEL, age 27, from Eugene, was eastbound on Highway 126W near milepost 6 when it traveled across the centerline and collided with a westbound Western Lane Ambulance. The ambulance was returning from Eugene following an earlier patient transport. The two paramedics were not injured and initially treated FLAESCHEL until he was extricated by firefighters from his pickup.
FLAESCHEL was transported by ambulance to Peace Harbor Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. The initial investigation led to FLAESCHEL being cited for DUII, Reckless Driving, and two counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Siuslaw Valley Fire Department, Western Lane Ambulance, and ODOT.
Trooper Justin Goldsmith is the lead investigator.
