CCSO: MAN DIES IN SKIING ACCIDENT AT MOUNT HOOD SKIBOWL

On March 21, 2012 at approximately 7:50 p.m. the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to Mount Hood Skibowl, 87000 E HWY 26, Government Camp, Oregon, for an injured skier.
Mt. Hood Ski Patrol reported a skier had struck a tree. CPR was being performed as rescuers were enroute.
James Malcarne, age 37 of Portland, was pronounced dead at 8:36 p.m.
Mr. Malcarne had been skiing with friends at Skibowl since about 5:00 p.m. that evening. When Mr. Malcarne did not arrive at the end of a run with his friends they immediately began searching for him.
Mr. Malcarne was found at the base of a tree near the edge of a run. He was not breathing. His friends began CPR and sent for help. Ski Patrol arrived and transported Mr. Malcarne off the slope.
Mr. Malcarne's accident was not directly witnessed. His speed at the time of the accident is not known. Mr. Malcarne was wearing a helmet.
His friends report he was an experienced skier.
