Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for the public's help to identify the suspect(s) responsible for the unlawful waste of over 400 pounds of elk meat discovered Tuesday morning in east Lincoln County.
According to Trooper Heather Van Meter, on the morning of November 22, 2011, the remains of seven elk carcasses were found by troopers in the area off Burnt Woods Forest Road near the junction with Burnt Woods Ridge Road. Along with the elk carcasses, 8 bags of scrap meat were also found.
It appears the elk were taken during the first rifle coast bull elk season and later dumped sometime this last weekend. Troopers estimated over 400 pounds of usable meat was wasted.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Turn-In-Poacher (TIP) line at 800-452-7888 or email Trooper Van Meter at heather.m.vanmeter@state.or.us.
