Community members throughout Portland will come together to honor the brief life of Julio Cesar Marquez, Portland's most recent - and tragically young- victim of violence.
All neighbors and friends are invited to come together for an anti-violence candlelight vigil for Julio on Monday, November 21 at 4:30pm at Portland Parks & Recreation's East Portland Community Center (EPCC). Julio was once a member of the skate team at EPCC. He lived just blocks away, and spent a lot of time enjoying recreation programs there.
The brief program includes planned remarks by the Marquez family, City Parks Commissioner Nick Fish, and other concerned community leaders. A representative from Mayor Sam Adams' office will also attend.
Latino Network has created a Community Response Fund to provide financial support to victims of violence in our community and their families. Donations to the fund can be made to Latino Network:

13 year-old Julio was killed on Sunday night, November 6 in Northeast Portland. He was an eighth grader at Rosie Hinton School, where he was well thought of by teachers and students and excelled in mathematics. He loved to dance, and skateboarded at Portland Parks & Recreation's East Portland Community Center.
