A 61-year old Lake Stevens, Washington woman died Saturday night in a traffic crash after losing control of the pickup she was driving and traveling off the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 about ten miles south of Ashland. The pickup was pulling a trailer with a 32-foot aluminum boat. The victim's name is being released in this update.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Mark Byrd, on August 20, 2011 at approximately 10:46 p.m. a 2005 Dodge pickup driven by BERNICE KAY GRACEY, age 61, from Lake Stevens, Washington was southbound on Interstate 5 when she lost control on a straight downgrade section near milepost 4. For unknown reasons, the pickup traveled along the side of the freeway, up an embankment and came to rest on its top.

GRACEY, who was the sole occupant, was using safety restraints was pronounced deceased at the scene.

OSP troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are continuing the investigation to determine the cause of the fatal crash.

OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by ODOT, Ashland Fire Department, and Jackson County Fire District 5.

The southbound lanes of travel were restricted to one lane at the scene for approximately five hours while the investigation was taking place.
