Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 199 north of Selma that resulted in the death of an adult male and injuries to three other people. The victim's name is being released after next of kin notification was done.

According to OSP Sergeant Tanya Henderson, on August 12, 2011 at approximately 2:22 p.m. a 1998 Dodge Stratus driven by JAMES CARR NEIL, age 55, from Cave Junction, was southbound on Highway 199 near milepost 17 when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a northbound 2007 Dodge van driven by GORDON KILLAM, age 73, from Cave Junction. The vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane.

NEIL was pronounced deceased at the scene.

KILLAM and rear passenger HANS ANDERSON, age 45, from Selma, were transported by AMR ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital with possible serious injuries. Right front passenger FIACRE "RAY" VERACRUZ, age 55, from Cave Junction, was flown by Mercy Flights to Rogue Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.

All occupants were using safety restraints and both vehicles' airbags deployed.

The crash caused major traffic delays on Highway 199 with both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic backed up for 3 - 4 miles. The roadway was open to one lane after about 30 minutes and the entire roadway was opened at 4:05 p.m.

OSP troopers from the Grants Pass office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Illinois Valley Fire Department, American Medical Response, Mercy Flights, ODOT and Josephine County Sheriff's Department assisted with the scene.
