FATAL PEDESTRIAN-INVOLVED TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 99E NORTH OF GLADSTONE (PHOTO)

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday night's fatal pedestrian-involved traffic crash on Highway 99E about a half mile north of Gladstone between SE Hull Avenue and SE Jennings Avenue. A 24-year old female was pronounced deceased at the scene and her name is withheld pending confirmation of next of kin notification.
According to OSP Trooper Kimberly Long, on August 19, 2011 at approximately 11:03 p.m. three people were attempting to cross Highway 99E on foot from the west side to the east side about two-tenths of a mile north of SE Hull Avenue. The victim, who was the last person in the group of three, was struck in the left northbound lane by a 2006 Subaru Baja four-door driven by ROBERT LEO CARSTENSEN, age 61, from Milwaukie. The victim came to rest in the right northbound lane near the fog line and was pronounced deceased upon arrival of emergency responders.
The vehicle immediately stopped at the scene. Both driver and 65-year old female passenger have fully cooperated with the investigation. They were not injured.
The investigation is continuing and there is no evidence that alcohol or other impairment were contributing factors. There is no marked crosswalk or overhead street lighting at the location where Highway 99E has two lanes in both directions with a paved center median.
OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
Gladstone Fire Department, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office assisted. ODOT handled traffic control through the area while the northbound lanes and center median were closed about 3 hours during the investigation.
