As the deputy approached the vehicle on foot, the driver sped off. The deputy pursued the SUV for a short distance to the area of 82nd Avenue and Highway 224.

The SUV rolled over when the driver tried to take the Highway 224 West exit at a high rate of speed. The deputy arrived to see the driver flee from the vehicle on foot. Deputies along with officers from the Oregon City and Milwaukie Police Departments contained the area while two canine handlers and their police dogs from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office searched for the suspect.
