Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Monday afternoon's three-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 6 between Glenwood and Banks. One person was killed and two others received serious, non-life threatening injuries. Names and other information are being released in this update.
According to Trooper Michael VanRenterghem, on July 11, 2011 at approximately 3:10 p.m. a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado four-door pickup driven by CARL HARRY WEAVER, age 63, from Cornelius, was eastbound on Highway 6 near milepost 42 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 1987 Ford Tempo four-door driven by KENNETH L. CLARK, age 68, from Cloverdale. After the initial collision, a westbound 2005 Honda Civic four-door driven by JOHN P. REUER, age not available, from northeast Portland, wasn't able to stop and struck the rear of the pickup causing minor damage.
CLARK was pronounced deceased at the scene.
CARL WEAVER and passenger MICHAEL H. WEAVER, age 14, were both transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with serious, non-life threatening injuries.
REUER and his three passengers, two adults and a child, were not injured. Their vehicle was later driven from the scene.
Safety restraint use information is not available.
OSP troopers from the Banks and Astoria offices are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash with the assistance of the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Washington County Sheriff's Office, Forest Grove and Banks fire departments, and ODOT.
The highway was closed about five hours with a detour in place.
