Sherwood Police and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue assigned extra staff during the July 4th holiday to patrol neighborhoods in Sherwood. Their shared goal was to promote fireworks safety and reduce the potential for injury and fire damage through a combination of public education and enforcement activities. Officers canvassed neighborhoods conveying tips on safe and legal fireworks practices.

During the evening, patrol officers and a deputy fire marshal responded to incidents involving illegal fireworks. From noon through midnight, police and fire responders received about 20 calls for service regarding illegal fireworks. A total of 15 people were cited for the possession and/or use of illegal fireworks. The citations were issued for violations provided by city ordinance, with a fine of up to $250.00. Illegal fireworks were also seized as a part of the enforcement efforts, (as depicted in the attached photograph.)
