FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - INTERSTATE 5 NEAR GOLD HILL

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Thursday afternoon's single vehicle rollover traffic crash on Interstate 5 near Gold Hill that later turned into a fatality. The crash resulted in the death of a 79-year old woman and non-life threatening injuries to her 80-year old husband who was driving the vehicle. Their names will be released later tonight to allow family time to complete next of kin notifications.
On July 7, 2011 at approximately 12:58 p.m. a 2002 Honda Accord with two occupants was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 40 when it traveled off the freeway, struck a roadway marker and barrier, and then rolled. Both occupants were extricated from the car by Jackson County Fire District #3 firefighters and were transported by ground ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center.
The 79-year old female passenger died from her injuries after arrival at the hospital. Her husband received non-life threatening injuries. Both were using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Jackson County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
