ELDERLY WOMEN ATTACKED AT MAX STATION

On 7/27/11 at about 1420 hours, Cordarius Jeffreys walked onto the MAX station platform at NE 8th and NE Cleveland. According to witnesses, Jeffreys walked straight to Lieng Nguyen and punched her in the head without provocation. She ran away from him to another area on the platform, but he tracked and followed her at a walking pace and eventually got close enough to strike her several more times, again without cause. Nguyen ran completely off the platform towards NE 8th to escape the attack.
Jeffreys turned his attention to Muriel Morgan who was sitting peacefully on a bench awaiting a train. The witness told investigating officers Jeffreys began punching Morgan repeatedly in the head with his closed fists. At some point he stopped and paced back and forth in front of the injured woman. Witnesses described Jeffreys as looking at his hands before turning and pummeling Morgan again with a barrage of at least 20 blows with his fists to her head and face.
At the end of the attack, Jeffreys simply walked off the platform onto NE 8th. Officers located him and during the contact, Jeffreys resisted arrest. Officers deployed a Taser and subdued Jeffreys into handcuffs. He was taken to and lodged at MCBF on multiple charges including Assault III, Assault IV and Interfering with public transportation.
Ms. Nguyen received a contusion to her head and was released at the scene. Ms. Morgan received a broken nose, deep laceration to her head requiring multiple stitches to close. She was taken to OHSU for treatment and released on 7/28/11.
Investigating officers believe Jeffreys to be somewhat unstable and perhaps suffering from some type of mental condition. During the interview, he rambled and made little sense when asked questions. All indications at this time are the attack is simply an act of a single unstable individual and there are no known links to any type of gang activity or hate crime.
