An Ephrata, Washington man is facing numerous charges following his arrest Thursday evening when he tried to assault an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper during a traffic stop south of Wilsonville.

On June 9, 2011 at approximately 8:51 p.m. a witness called OSP Northern Command Center dispatch of a possible DUII driver in a black 1991 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle displaying Washington license plates southbound Interstate 205 near Stafford Road. About ten minutes later an OSP trooper spotted the vehicle southbound on Interstate 5 and stopped it near milepost 281.

The trooper contacted the driver identified as KYLE D. ZEIGLER, age 40, from Ephrata, Washington. As the trooper was back at his patrol car running routine checks on ZEIGLER, he got out of his vehicle and moved toward the patrol car. ZEIGLER ignored the trooper's orders to return back to his vehicle and moved in to assault the trooper. The trooper stopped the assault by quickly taking ZEIGLER to the ground and into custody.

ZEIGLER was transported to the Clackamas County Jail where he was booked for:

* DUII
* Assaulting a Public Safety Officer
* Resisting Arrest
* Reckless Driving
* Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree

ZEIGLER was later released from custody pending a future court appearance on the charges.
