(NOTE: Last name should be "HEYS-OLSON")
A 24-year old Longview, Washington man was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was operating traveled off Highway 224 east of Estacada and down a steep embankment toward the Clackamas River. The man came to rest on rocks near the river while the motorcycle went into the water.
Preliminary information indicates on June 29, 2011 at approximately 3:20 p.m. a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle operated by JAMES D. HEYS-OLSON, age 24, from Longview, Washington was eastbound on Highway 224 near milepost 33 when it failed to negotiate a left curve and drove off a steep estimated 40-foot embankment.
HEYS-OLSON was wearing a protective helmet and was seriously injured. Estacada Rural Fire District personnel retrieved him for transport by ambulance to a secondary location where LifeFlight took him to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
A dive team retrieved the motorcycle from the river.
Subsequent investigation led OSP to cite HEYS-OLSON for DUII, Careless Driving, No Operators License, and Driving Uninsured.
U.S. Forest Service, Estacada Rural Fire District and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
