Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday morning's two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 97 north of the California / Oregon border that seriously injured two people.

According to OSP Trooper Derrek Ellena, on June 28, 2011 at approximately 7:30 a.m. a 2007 Buick Lacrosse driven by ANDREW D. SAYLES, age 18, from Klamath Falls, was northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 290 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2010 Honda Civic driven by CHELSEA M. SCHEPPS, age 19, from Anderson, California.

Both drivers were initially transported by ground ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls. They were later taken by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

SCHEPPS injuries are critical and SAYLES injuries are serious. Safety restraint use is pending confirmation. Both vehicles airbags deployed.

OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Keno Fire Department and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was closed about 45 minutes before being open to one lane.
