UPDATE #2: NAME RELEASED - FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 26 EAST OF WARM SPRINGS

A 54-year old Vancouver, Washington man has been tentatively identified as the victim who died in Tuesday morning's fatal commercial truck crash on Highway 26 about six miles east of Warm Springs. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, with the assistance of the Jefferson County Medical Examiner, are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. The victim's name is being released in this update and next of kin have been notified.
According to OSP Sergeant Chris Seber, on June 28, 2011 at approximately 8:00 a.m. a truck pulling a tanker trailer loaded with 8,300 gallons of aviation fuel driven by DAVID LEE SPOONER, age 54, from Vancouver, Washington was eastbound uphill on Highway 26 near milepost 109. For an unknown reason, the truck traveled onto the shoulder and against the guardrail for about 100 feet before breaking through the railing. The truck and trailer went down an embankment about 200 feet and caught fire.
Warm Springs Fire Department and Jefferson County Fire District #1 firefighters responded to control and extinguish the fire which took about an hour. The fire destroyed the truck and trailer, and sparked a small brush fire in the surrounding area.
OSP troopers from the Bend and Madras offices are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. SPOONER was identified as the driver with the assistance of his company, Cascade Petroleum Transportation Inc. out of north Portland. He was driving the involved vehicles enroute to Sunriver to deliver fuel.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Fire District #1, Warm Springs Fire & Safety, Haz Mat Team 03 from Gresham-Multnomah County, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
