OSP TROOPER ARRESTS HIGH SPEED MOTORCYCLIST AFTER ATTEMPT TO ELUDE EAST OF LEBANON

An Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper arrested a Sweet Home-area motorcyclist Friday night after he was observed driving 127 mph on Highway 20 east of Lebanon and then attempted to elude the trooper. The man's attempt to flee ended after shredding the rear tire on his motorcycle causing him to drive into a ditch where he was arrested.
On June 3, 2011 at approximately 8:10 p.m. Recruit Trooper Don Rummer saw a black 2005 Ducati motorcycle being operated westbound at 127 mph on Highway 20 near milepost 21. As the trooper tried to keep the motorcycle in sight while trying to get it stopped, it continued to be operated recklessly until its rear tire shredded at Waterloo Road and Berlin Road. The trooper took the motorcycle operator, LANCE M. HAWKEN, age 40, from Sweet Home, into custody and transported him to the Linn County Jail where he was cited to appear on the following charges:
* Felony Attempt to Elude on a Vehicle
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
He was also cited for Violation of the Basic Rule: 127 mph in a 55 mph speed zone.
