Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the seizure of approximately 26 kilograms of cocaine (approximately 65 pounds) found during a Thursday night traffic stop on Highway 97 north of Moro in Sherman County. An Omak, Washington man was taken into custody during the stop and cocaine seizure.
According to OSP Lieutenant Pat Ashmore, on June 23, 2011 at approximately 10:56 p.m. an OSP trooper stopped a 2006 Dodge pickup displaying Washington license plates for a traffic violation on Highway 97 near milepost 11. The pickup's driver was identified as JAKE WINFRED TAYLOR, age 31, from Omak, Washington.
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop with the assistance of an OSP drug detection canine led to the discovery of approximately 26 kilograms of cocaine inside luggage in the passenger compartment. Estimated value of the seized cocaine is $450,000.
TAYLOR was arrested without incident and lodged in the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facilities (NORCOR) in The Dalles for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Cocaine.
According to the Sherman County District Attorney's Office, TAYLOR was arraigned June 24 at 1:00 p.m. with bail set at $1 million.
