Minor Injury Traffic Crash - Highway 97 near LaPine

MINOR INJURY TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 97 NEAR LAPINE

Two people received minor injuries Monday afternoon during a two-vehicle crash on the intersection of Highway 97 and State Rec Road near LaPine. An Oregon State Police (OSP) investigation concluded with one driver being cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

According to OSP Senior Trooper Tim Holbrook, on June 13, 2011 at approximately 2:35 p.m. a 2010 Dodge Ram pickup driven by STEVEN C. LEAKE, age 20, from Tucson, Arizona was northbound on Highway 97 approaching the intersection with State Rec Road when a 2006 Ford Explorer pulled out from the west side of the intersection into the path of the Dodge pickup. The Dodge pickup collided into the driver side of the Ford Explorer driven by HOWARD F. SNIDER, age 84, from Stayton. After initial impact both vehicles traveled off the east side shoulder and the Ford Explorer came to rest on its top.

Both drivers were transported by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with minor injuries. They were using safety restraints and airbags deployed on both vehicles.

A 32-year old male passenger in the Dodge pickup was not injured.

SNIDER was cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by LaPine Rural Protection Fire District and ODOT.
