(Minor correction to indicate pickup was struck in the rear by the log truck)
Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, with the assistance of Astoria Police Department, are investigating a serious injury traffic crash involving a small pickup and a loaded log truck on Highway 105 (also known as Business Highway 101) near the intersection with Highway 202 in Astoria. Two people were transported, one with critical injuries, to an area hospital.
According to OSP Lieutenant Duane Stanton, on June 14, 2011 at approximately 3:30 p.m. OSP was requested to respond to investigate the crash at the request of Astoria Police Department. Preliminary investigation indicates a small Toyota pickup with an adult male and adult female was northbound on Highway 105 when it was struck in the rear by a loaded log truck. The impact pushed the pickup into a median area.
The male driver and female passenger were extricated by Astoria Fire Department personnel and transported by ambulance to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria. The log truck driver appears to not have been injured.
ODOT is assisting traffic getting through the area. More information will be released later tonight.
