Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the medical examiner's office, is continuing the investigation into the cause of death of an adult male transient found in his home-made shelter in the woods along Interstate 5 just south of Salem. Preliminary investigation indicates the man's death is not the result of a crime and may have been by natural causes.

According to OSP Trooper Ray Henschel, on June 29, 2011 at approximately 10:05 a.m. Salem police were notified of a deceased male transient in the woods along Interstate 5 near milepost 249. OSP was also notified and responded to investigate.

The man in his early 60's is a known transient for several years in the Salem area. He was found by a friend who had not seen him since June 17. His name will be available for release after next of kin have been found and notified.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Salem police and Salem Fire Department.
